Francis Ford Coppola's entire creative life has led to Megalopolis, and the legendary filmmaker behind The Godfather, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now has released a first glimpse at his self-funded passion project. The film is Coppola's first directorial effort since 2011's Twixt and premiered during this year's Cannes Film Festival. "It brings me joy to share a glimpse of what is to come…" the director wrote on Instagram.

Megalopolis is a "Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America," that centers on an idealistic architect (played by two-time Oscar nominee Adam Driver) with the power to stop time. Here is the official synopsis: "The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor's daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves."

Coppola (himself a five-time Oscar winner and fourteen-time nominee) wrote, directed and produced Megalopolis. The ensemble cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman.

Lionsgate will release Megalopolis in theaters and in IMAX in the U.S. and Canada on Sept. 27. Watch the teaser trailer and a first look clip below.
